About the Neighbourhood

The town is located approximately 9 km west of Cork City Centre (8 mins drive). Ballincollig is one of the county’s fastest growing urban centres and is the western gateway suburb of Cork City.  Ballincollig Main Street provides the main vehicular access through the town, and is located on the N22, which links Cork City to the east, with Killarney and Tralee to the west. Cork Airport is located approximately 14 km to the south-east (15 mins drive).


Ballincollig's Regional Park is a large area of green park area consisting of well laid out walks and trails opened to the public by Cork County Council. This green area by the River Lee, is a wonderful asset to the people of Ballincollig for a stroll by the river near the old canals of the Gunpowder Mills.


Additional amenities located in Ballincollig also include a library, a multiplex cinema, playgrounds and shopping centre. The location is also steeped in local history and is home to Ballincollig Castle and Ballincollig Royal Gunpowder Mills which has opened as a beautiful amenity area and heritage centre. For the sports enthusiasts there is Ballincollig GAA Club and Ballincollig RFC.

Transportation

Ballincollig is served by a number of Bus Éireann bus routes. These include route 220 (to Carrigaline, via UCC, Cork City Centre, and Douglas), route 220X, and route 233 (Cork City Centre to Macroom via Ballincollig).

Education

The town also reaps the benefits of having excellent educational facilities including several crèches, five primary schools, and two secondary schools. The two secondary schools in Ballincollig are Coláiste Choilm and Ballincollig Community School. Ballincollig Community School is located in West Ballincollig and is next to the 'Church of Christ Our Light'. Coláiste Choilm is located in East Ballincollig Two of the primary schools, Scoil Eoin and Scoil Mhuire, are located in the town centre near St Mary's and St John's church. Three of the primary schools, Scoil Barra, Gaelscoil Uí Ríordáin and Gaelscoil an Chaisleáin are located outside the centre. Several of the area's schools are Gaelscoileanna (Irish-speaking schools). Ballincollig is also ideally locating within easy commuting distance from UCC. 

Dine and Drink

Ballincollig offers a fantastic selection of places to eat and places to drink with a venue to suit all tastes. For fantastic pub grub check out The White Horse, The Angler’s or the Trade House Central. Those wanting a quiet drink after work go no further than Mary O’s, The Darby or Healy’s Pub.  For a tasty lunch topped with awesome coffee look no further than Good for the Soul, The Plaza, Bite Sized Cafe Bakery or the Chapel Gate Café.  There are plenty of takeaway chippers in Ballincollig, but the Fry is top of the list!
